What is Today?

Is today Halloween? Or is today, the day before All Saints Day? Depending on which you lean towards will reveal much about your spirit. If you find more joy in the world's traditions than in the traditions of God's Church, then it is probably time to look at whether you are really walking in the faith.

After 4:30 today (4:00pm in some dioceses) we begin the vigil of All Saints Day. It is a time to remember the Saints and ask for their intercession. Whatever you do this evening (and I am not going to try to be more dogmatic than the Church is on what you should be doing), make sure you do not forget what today is, and what the Lord expects you to be doing.

All of life must be lived in recognition of Who is the Lord. It is not the devil, it is not some politician (any politician -- no matter how much you like him), it is not your favorite musician or actor. Only Christ is Lord, and His commands must come before any societal practice or custom--always.
