True Colors

Usually when people are getting along, they try to be as kind as they can to each other. And, usually when people get in a fight, they turn rabid. Neither one of these is good behavior because we should always show love, regardless of the situation. Being kind because you are getting along with someone is not the same as genuine love; it is more just self-seeking pragmatism.
Isn't it funny how some people with good ideas can behave well when everything is going well for them, and then change on a moment's notice when they get upset? They appear to have good ideas in one area of life, but do not seem to know how to deal with personal challenges. Today, it is a common reaction to adversity to demonize the opponent; not just say "I disagree" and show grace, but to seek the most extreme reactions and harshest terms to use about the other person.
President Trump and Elon Musk have gotten in a bit of a spat lately, and it appears that their true colors are showing. Yes, they may have had good ideas about how to fix problems in this country, and we are certainly better than we were under the previous (probably stolen) administration in the White House, but they do not seem to have any good ideas about to disagree. We cannot pretend that these politicians, millionaires and bureaucrats are godly just because we like a policy or idea that they have. This is certainly not to be a hypocrite and demonize them, but merely point out that God is reminding us that they too are human, and that any "idolizing" (even the soft kind) is wrong.
Only our Lord deserves our worship, and no person on Earth should be honored the way that we are to honor the Saints. Yet we slip up and do it with politicians, entertainers, athletes, and others, because we have an inward desire to look up to greatness. It might be jarring, but a balanced view of the world says that we must acknowledge that humans will always let us down. They are sinners and they will do things that upset us. A godly heart will never give extreme devotion to anyone in the manner that approaches idolatry (especially those who are outside of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church!).
Worship the Lord Jesus Christ, give honor to all the Saints in Heaven, be thankful for those godly men and women on Earth who help to point us to God, but never, ever, put anyone on this Earth "on a pedestal" because they can easily fall down and crush us!
