That's a Bit Wonky

Yesterday we had an HVAC technician out to replace a warranty part on our home mini-split unit. We have had the same problem (an inside air handler heating without stopping) repaired multiple times with no success. This time we thought we had the right fix planned. When the technician got here he called the manufacturer to make sure he was changing the part correctly. Someone with the manufacturer said, "you don't need to change that; that is the way it is supposed to work" (i.e. heat constantly so that the room gets up into the high 80's). So the technician was ready to leave.
I quickly called the manufacturer myself, and got someone who said, "what?! it is not supposed to work that way." Same company, two very different stories. Not everyone necessarily represents the Catholic faith accurately either, and if you get a bad description, it is wise to dig deeper. Sadly, today, you can even get this from one Priest to another. I had someone once tell me that a Priest told him that the Church no longer believed in purgatory (I am not joking). Yeah . . . NO; stop talking to that Priest immediately.
With all the confusion today, and so many extreme misrepresentations of the faith, it is not wise to accept everyone's comment about the faith as fully accurate truth. This does not mean that you should question every comment you ever hear about the Catholic faith, but it does mean that if you have a basic grounding in the faith (and many Catholics today do not!), then when something sounds different from what the Church teaches, ask questions. Seek sources. Ask for references. A Scripture citation or a catechism quote is always helpful.
We still do not have our unit fixed, but at least we did not stop with the incorrect information. And neither should you when someone throws something your way that is a bit wonky. Sodomy is not suddenly allowed, women priests are not just around the corner, and it is still right to kneel and receive communion on the tongue. Do not let someone tell you otherwise: the Catholic faith, is still Catholic.
