"Talk Soon, M'am"

Writer: Fr. SeraiahFr. Seraiah

I saw a video recently of a woman who claimed to have gotten away with not paying taxes for eight years. She said no one came after her, because the government does not have enough people. Therefore she felt confident to encourage others to commit crimes. Specifically, she encouraged people to assassinate Elon Musk. The response from a U.S. Attorney was priceless:

"Duly noted. Thx for letting us know. We’ll put you in the system. Talk soon, M’am."

Ouch! So cool.

It made me think about a passage in the book of Sirach:

"Do not say, 'I sinned, and what happened to me?' for the Lord is slow to anger."

This is why most people are willing to sin. They got away with it once, and so they take the chance that they can get away with it again. They bank on the idea that they will never get caught. It is going to be a very sad Judgment Day for anyone who thinks that way. The Lord is "slow to anger", Sirach tell us. In other words, He is patient and gives us time to repent; but not forever. "Slow to anger" means that anger does come eventually. We all have a day of reckoning where we will have to look into the face of Christ. Will He be your Judge or your Savior?
