Stretching

A man once got sick and was given a prescription by the doctor for some medicine. He filled the prescription, paid for it, took it home, and then never took any of it. He got sicker over time and ended up in the hospital. When the doctor asked why he did not take the medicine, the man told him, "I really do not like swallowing pills". In other words, he knew it would help him, and that he should take it, but failed to do so because of his discomfort with it.

We all have areas in our lives that are harder for us to deal with than others. It is not the same for everyone, because each person has different likes and dislikes, and different strengths and weaknesses. Yet, we each know when we are out of our comfort zone, and tend to try to stay away from those things. Sometimes it might be a minor area, and other times it is something much more serious.

How do you deal with the areas of spirituality that are hard for you? Do you merely neglect them, or maybe you try briefly but give up quickly? We all have something that might be harder when it comes to growing our faith, but we have to learn to accept our weaknesses and ask God for help to move past them. He is always willing to grant the extra strength that we need in order to overcome our failings. As it was once said, "we have met the enemy and he are us" (yes, I know the grammar is bad).

Do not let your own discomfort prevent your sanctification from happening. Do not allow your fears to get the best of you, because it may lead to the devil getting the best of you. Is it fear of conversation with strangers? Is it fear of the Confessional? Is it fear of giving financially to the church? Whatever it may be, if God has commanded it, your lack of confidence is not an excuse to ignore His commands. Ask Him for help with getting past the fear and doing what is good and right. It is your salvation, and God is willing to help you with it.
