Spiritual Awareness

I watched a video recently of someone who acquired an object that was owned by a homicidal maniac. The object itself, which was somewhat disgusting, does not need to be specified here for the point of what I am saying. In the video, the person opens a package that had just been delivered, and he is ecstatic about it. He pulls the object out, and is as giddy as a 6 year old on Christmas morning. His words: "he actually held this, it was his; I can't believe that I now own this; I am so lucky, woo-hoo!"

Now ponder this with me for a moment. A person does not become a homicidal maniac overnight. He eases into it. He is usually raised in a bad setting -- violent abuse of some sort, probably drunkenness in the home, and often no discretion about what the children are allowed to experience. In the process of that upbringing, the child who becomes a murderer usually opens himself up to various kinds of demonic influence. Thus, an object he owned is not something you want in your home; there is always a chance that demons attached themselves to his possessions.

Therefore, how would you respond if someone handed you an object that had been owned by a demonically possessed person? Would you be, "this is so cool!" or "find me a deliverance prayer to protect me from this thing!"? Our world view will make an enormous difference in whether we are encouraged or discouraged from being around it.

How aware are you of the spiritual realm around you? Do you realize that there are stories of witches cursing objects and then selling them at yard sales to complete strangers? Do you pay attention to the various things that you come into contact with in this world and ask if you are opening yourself up to evil? What kind of discernment do you use when you make those decisions about what you bring into your home (physically or digitally!)?

You do not need to be giddy about holding evil things to be in danger. You can be in just as much danger because of being careless. In today's world many people ignore the spiritual dimension of their lives and end up in spiritual adversity. The spiritual dimension is real, and yet modernism has taught us either to doubt it, or just to ignore it altogether. Knowing that Heaven and Hell are real, means that angels and demons are as well. Pay attention to the full spectrum of this world we live in; there are beings that are not on your side and you must protect yourself and your family from them.
