Interruptions

I had the odd experience recently of saying the rosary and was interrupted fifteen times. Really. Interestingly, I was offering it for the intent of a good and holy Pope to be chosen at the conclave tomorrow (i.e. one who is undeniably Catholic in all he does and says). So, of course, the devil wanted to interrupt me (that does not mean that everyone who interrupted me was led by the devil, but just that he wanted it to occur).

Have you ever found yourself interrupted in an action and then realized that the action was sinful and it was clearly the Lord Who interrupted you? That makes it perfectly clear: God does not want you to follow the path of sin, so He graciously sends interruptions to give you an opportunity to repent. It is undeniable when this happens, but we often ignore what God is doing and attribute it only to coincidence (as though that really exists in a world created by an Almighty God!).

When you do something holy and an interruption occurs recognize that it is God's test. He wants to know whether you are really committed to doing what is right. When the kids are slow at getting ready for church, you are being tested. When the phone rings while you are sitting down to pray, you are being tested. When you think about something you want to spend your money on right as someone asks for financial help, you are being tested. These and many other things happen on a daily basis. Make sure that you are watching for it and preparing your heart to respond rightly. Do not let the devil or his minions tear down your soul. God is there to help you with His grace; make sure you cooperate with Him.
