Identification

Ok. So, there is just a ton of pressure for people to accept the insane idea that if you identify as something, then that is reality and therefore what you actually are. Fine. I self identify as a non-tax-payer; I self identify as a someone not bound by the speed limit laws; I self identify as owning all the money in the world; I self identify as the benevolent dictator of the planet Earth.

Well, not really (except maybe the first one; that would be nice). I hope you get the point though. The whole delusion of "self identification" is always selfish; it always serves the individual's self gratification. Consider this: has anyone ever self identified as something that helped them to become more humble? Has anyone ever self identified as something that was self-sacrificial? I think we all know that it has not happened. The motivation behind this self identification madness is clear: self service.

This is completely the opposite of everything our Lord has revealed to us through the Catholic Church about our spiritual well being (which may be the reason why they are doing it to begin with!). We are called to humility; we are called to self-sacrifice. Our duty before God in this life is not to please self, it is to please God above all else.

The concept that says we are to "identify" however we want is the same as the original temptation of the devil in the garden of Eden. The devil told Eve not to accept who God had made her, and to take the forbidden fruit so she could become what she wanted to be. It is evil. It always was and always will be. We are to humble ourselves before God and submit to how He identifies us; anything else is grave evil.
