Doctrinal Errors

I came across a fairly extreme belief that some Catholics have today. Let me be clear: I am not talking about a majority of Catholics, no. It is a minority -- at least as far as I can tell. It is already known that a good percentage of Catholics see abortion as morally acceptible. Here, however, is the (insane) twist on this. There are some Catholics who hold this position because they also believe in reincarnation. They are apparently unaware that this errant doctrine is condemned by the Church.

What, you may ask, is the connection between abortion and reincarnation? In case you did not notice it, they claim that it is not wrong to abort a child because they believe that the child's soul will be reincarnated into another body as the same person. This is, according to them, a wonderful thing because they can be "reborn" to parents who will love them and thus have a better chance to live a full life. These people have swallowed a version of a pagan teaching about eternity, along with the position of heathens on life and death, and merged it into a heresy.

The fact that the Church says that reincarnation is heresy is not a small issue. It is also not known by all Catholics. The reasons why the Church condemns abortion as a mortal sin is also not known by all Catholics. If you start getting things wrong in theology, you are going to end up getting other things wrong as well, since every doctrine relates to other doctrines. Nothing is totally isolated. You do not need six PhD's to get the basics of Catholic theology. Read the Trent Catechism, or maybe even the old Baltimore Catechism (number 3 or 4). Know your faith. If you do not believe what the Church teaches, you will end up believing what the Devil teaches.
