I've said this before, but it needs repeating regularly. Many moderns say that they do not need to believe in God because now science has proven we do not need Him (!). The reason they claim this is, according to them, because belief in God was only useful when it helped mankind to explain the world around. Now that science can explain the universe without reference to God, belief in Him is no longer necessary, so they say.
Many aspects of that claim need to be corrected, but I will focus on just one right now. Belief in God was never for the purpose of explaining the world. Belief in idols and other religious systems was (almost) always for the purpose of explaining the world (a brief overview of ancient Baalism, Asherah worship, and other pagan beliefs will make this clear). That is what made the Hebrews so different: they served a God Who was not like the rest of the "deities".
Belief in the triune God is a belief in the Creator of all things, and the Judge of all men. It does not merely explain things like weather, how babies are born, and what sickness is. It explains everything--life, death, eternity, the soul, the past, the future, etc.--and therefore, you cannot merely jettison belief in the Creator God because you figured out a couple details about what He created. That is why those who deny the existence of God are called in the Psalms, "fools".
