While preparing to post a new article recently, the webpage made an "AI" (artifical intelligence--which is actually big on artificial and low on intelligence) suggestion for a post. You read that right: a computer suggested what I should write to you, probably based on other things I have posted. I quickly had a few thoughts go through my mind (not all very kind), and this is one of them. AI is evil. AI is going to work its way into our lives and seek to tell us what to do in every aspect.
Let me make this clear. I do not, will not, and cannot, take the advice of any AI thing. It does not have to look like the Terminator or behave like the Matrix to make me resist. On this All Saints Day, I want to acknowledge that I get much of my inspiration from the Saints, their lives, and their words. I ask the Lord to tell me what my people need, and often I am reminded of something in the lives of the Saints that prompts me to write a post of similar subject matter.
No computer program, AI monster, or secular authority (especially them), will be able to tell me what to write or how to lead my people. I do not presume to be perfect, but I will always resist the path of letting the world decide what is right for anyone. I am sure that there are those out there (maybe even some deluded clergy) who think it is cute or fun to allow an AI thing to guide them. They will give account someday to the Lord for their foolish choices; that is between them and Him.
We are God's servants. Let us make sure that we are led by Him and His Church, and never by any invention of man; no matter how "smart" it may seem. These inventions and AI things may even be open to influence by demonic forces (many exorcists can tell you that technology can become possessed; why not an entire program?). Most Catholics would not allow a pagan to walk into their home and start giving orders to them and their family; why would any of us allow an electronic device to do it? Listen to the Lord, and tell the AI to shut up and leave you alone.
