Shì de zhǔrén

A man who was a member of the American Socialist Party was once speaking with a man who had fled Chinese communism. The American socialist said that, “China isn’t all that bad; we can actually learn a lot from the Chinese form of Communism. I think it would be a good thing for us to ask them to come over here and help us with the problems that we are dealing with today.” The man from China said, “Let me help you right now by teaching you something. Can you say, Shì de zhǔrén?” “What does that mean?” asked the American. “It is Chinese for, ‘Yes, master’. Get it over with and learn how to say it right now if you want the Chinese Communists to lead things here in America.”
